oil light just turned on

Gauge fluctuates from high to low. checked oil levels and oil is proper level, but a light pink. now there is a horrendous clacking sound seems worse in low gears, the light goes on and off.

Have the oil pressure check with a mechanical gauge to rule out the oil pressure switch and oil pump, the engine could be damaged.
