1999 Ford Expedition Start Vehicle Idles Between 1500 2000 Rpms Put Drive

When I start the vehicle, it idles at between 1500 and 2000 rpms. When I put it in drive, it goes in but will not shift out of first. I dont have any clue what would make it do this. Please help me! Thank you.

is the check engine light on???

check the fluid, beyond that you need a trans shop to monitor the system to see if it is a valve body issue or internal failure
