I need to replace the headlight switch assembly from the steering column of a 99 Ford Escort ZX2. How do I take it out and what tools do I need?

Disconnect the battery ground cable and wait one minute for the air bag backup power supply to be depleted.

Remove the screws and the upper and lower steering column shrouds.

Remove the headlamp switch.
1 Detach the electrical connector from the headlamp switch.
2 Remove the screws.
3 Disconnect the electrical connectors.
4 Remove the headlamp switch.

INSTALLATION

To install, reverse the removal procedure.
NOTE: When the battery is disconnected and reconnected, some abnormal drive symptoms may occur while the vehicle relearns its adaptive strategy. The vehicle may need to be driven 16 km (10 miles) or more to relearn its strategy.
