My service engine soon light came on and now when I come to a stop it wants to stall and is idling rough

Start with the malfunction indicator lamp. Pull the diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) and begin diagnosis there. While the DTC won't give you a definitive answer, it will give you a good place to start the diagnosis.
