1999 Ford Escort idles rough

when started up it idles rough. after running a while it starts to buck and carry on. i have changed the fuel pump,plugs and wires,and crankshaft position sensor 3 times. im running out of options and cant afford to take it to a mechanic. last time i started it up i smelled gas also.

the first thing I would do is a compression test. make sure all cylinders are around 125-130 lbs.
