my car will jerk going into first gear and the when i get up to 65 or 70 it wont go into gear like its supposed to. its almost like it get stuck in a lower gear.Is it safe to drive this vehicle and how do i fix it?

computer is saying sensor is malfunctioning and replacement may fix it.
