multiple misfire high idle

When hooke to scanner it is giving codes for cylinders 1,6,9 misfire and egr insuffencent however under the datastream all the cylinders are misfiring it also has a high idle now about 200 rpm and a nasty smell under the hood if you let it run for more than 2 mins and turn it off you can hear the exhaust pipe cracking

What engine do you have? If you are dumping fuel into the catalytic converter, it will smell.

The misfire is causing the smell. Raw fuel into the converter... Pull the plugs in those cylinders and see what they look like. Check wires, check for vacuum leaks, check fuel pump pressure...
