I have a wining noise coming from under the hood. It does it for a short time and quits. It also quits when I turn the AC off. A new AC clutch and bearing has recently been installed. The AC cools as it should. Does this sound like a bad compressor.

I had the belt tension pulley and idler pulleys changed not long ago. The noise is defiantly coming from the A when it engages..

then it may be the compressor but that doesn't mean it's bad. it depends on the temp outside an what you are hearing is the compressing the gas and suction on initial start up.i t might be a tad low on Freon but like I said nothing to worry about.

It turned out to be the bolt that holds the AC clutch in place came out. Replaced the bolt and all is well.
