dodge stratus 1999 no heat temp guage spiking

1999 dodge stratus temp guage spiking with no heat. hasn't been run in a month. has been sitting in cold weather.possible thermastat prob or could liqiud be frozen in rad. please advise

It could be low coolant, or frozen coolant. If frozen, you need to to get the vehicle into a warm area before major damage happens to the engine block, radiator or other components. Check that first. If it isn't frozen, make sure it is full. If the coolant is unfrozed and full, next check the t-stat. On our homepage under the DIY section are directions for checking a t-stat.
