honk starts blowing continuously?

Could be the horn relay sticking or the horn button on the steering wheel-

It's usually the horn switch causing that. the contacts are separated by foam which deteriorates and causes the contacts to touch each other. The biggest problem is that the switch is usually an integral part of the air bag and it means buying a whole air bag. You will have to check with the dealer to find out if the switch is sold separately.

i have a 1999 dodge stratus and i have had the horn stick on two occasions so far..the first time it was only when i turned my wheel, this last time my wheel wasnt turned and it wouldnt stop. I did however notice that on both occasions my car had been sitting in the hot sun for more than 6 hours. Not sure why this is happening but if you could try to instruct me with the best way to handle this situation. Thank You

Happened to me recently on my 96 Stratus 4 cy 2.4l after all kinds of investagation I took airbag assembly off the steering, it is held in with 2 torx you have to get in on the side, be carefull also disconnect battery cable and leave off for a few minutes, the washers are corroded that are at the bottom of the screws on steering colum, take off screws one at a time same size torx as outside and put new washers on, it is not hard to do this but not easy either, good luck Declan.

Maybe a wire is shorted in the steering column? Check the horn relay. The wire for the horn button is ground for the coil side of relay, if that wire in the steering column is shorted to ground, the horn relay will energize and the horn will blow.

If you try to work on steering wheel or column, make sure air bags are disarmed, first.

I also wondered about your security system causing the horn to sound?

How do you remove the steering wheel to repair a short in the horn wire? The horn relay has been replaced, but the horn still blows continually. When you press the horn , the horn will stop for a moment, the start again. Any help you can provide would be greatly appreciated.

Whenever turning the steering wheel mu horn honks. Also I'm not sure if this is connected but also my drivers side door dings like the door is open when I'm driving. Please help!!!!

The clock spring is coming apart. That's a wound-up ribbon cable in a plastic housing under the steering wheel. As it continues to break, eventually the cruise control won't work and the air bag light will turn on and the system will be disabled.

For the door problem, look for a black plastic switch at the rear of the door opening. There should be what looks like a plastic nail on the end. All you can see is the head, but if you look real close, you'll see a real small hole along the edge of that head. Use a pick in that hole to pull the "nail" out a little. It will go back in when you close the door. That is the self-adjusting feature. Very often they over-adjust. To prevent that from happening again, I pull the nail all the way out, slide three small washers on it, then reinstall it that way. I use M5 lock washers and paint them black to match.

98 stratus. Anyone had problems with horn coming on while driving and making a right turn. Anyone know how to get into the steering wheel pad to check out problem. The horn will come on while driving. The pad seems to be super sensitive and just making a right turn will get the horn blowing. I removed the fuse, but it controls the parking lights as well. How do I get into the steering column to check out the problem?

I had the same problem with my sebring. I took it to a couple of shops and considering the cost and the time to take it apart which is a screw under the column, removing the wheel and having to maybe replace the airbag etc, they actually told me to just run a wire to the horns, from the fuse and attach a button. Darn thing works great... and it will pass inspection.

I was driving today, June 12th and the horn sounded for no reason. My hands were not near the horn switch on the center of the steering wheel. It started and was acting like there is something loose in the steering column, because I was hearing something like a switch activating whenever I hit bumps or rough road. Questions: How can I disconnect the horn (need to know where it is) until I can get this fixed and what to have checked?

I had same problem on my 96 Stratus, the washers on torx screws on steering wear out and you get continous ground. You have to disconnect the battery leave off for 1 minute, take airbag off, 2 screws on side of steering wheel, torx, disconnect air bag be carefull and take off, you will see torx screws on column underneath, replace washer. Read edmunds manual its easy good luck, Declan.

had to remove fuse because when I make right turn or hit bump horn blows on its own

I have the same problem the horn connections are in the steering colum close to the airbag my mechanic said not to play with it but I could bypass and did not attempt yet

There is a rubber washers that fall apart and those grounding the honk pad and it starts blowing continuously.
Take off negative terminal under the hood. Then unscrew airbag holding screws on the back of steering wheel, carefully pull out the airbag, and gently unplug its connector. Then unscrew 4 screws that holds 2 honk pads, but be careful and don't lose plastic washers and springs under that pads. On that screws you'll find remaining of rubber isolating washers that needs to be replaced. I found some 3/8" rubber gaskets that fits snugly (see photo attached).
Then reassemble all back and it's done.
