cruise control

the cruise control wont work in my 1999 dodge ram 1500. it turns on but when i try to set it it wont work. what do i do

Check the brake switch to pedal clearance. If it is excessive, the cruise control would not work.
If speedometer is faulty, problem would occur too.
Do you have any other noticeable issues?

i noticed in my 96 ram the vacuum hose for the vacuum spped control broke. Is there a random small diameter hose just dangeling.
