My car is making a squeaking sound. At first I thought it might be a belt, but, when I hit the brakes it quits. Do you have any idea what it might be?

If it's a high pitched light screeching, that is probably the brake pad wear indicator. They usually stop squealing when you apply the brakes. It's time for a brake system inspection.
