We took it to the store and when we came out, the battery was dead?

I have the above car, with 64,100 miles on it. We took it to the store and when we came out, the battery was dead. Lights, radio, etc. were off. Now this was with a wind chill of -17 degrees. We jumped the car, noticed all 3 rear brake lights would not go off until we removed the fuse. This is NOT the dash board brake light, but the actual brake lights on the back of the car. So as not to run the battery down again, we have removed the fuse, but I obviously cannot drive the car like that.

Any ideas?

Hello,
YOur issue is an old one whith brake lights, the switch for the brake lights is actualy shut off when you release the brake pedal. on your way out of the car if your foot gets hooked on the brake pedal and lifts it upwards it will push the switch out of its socket slitghly and closes the switch truning your lights on when not pressing the pedal. if you remove the under dash cover and follow the brake pedal arm from the peddle upwards you'll eventualy see the switch. perhaps even the one for the transmision lockup converter as well. when you find the switch push it in towards the brake arm until your brake lights shut off. then press down on the brake peddle making sure it still allows the switch to close. this should solve your issue. if after making sure the switch if fully activated you see your lights still on then i would unplug the switch, if this shuts off the lights your switch is fualty and needs replacement.
