I have a 300m and lately, at idle and while driving, a screaming sound is coming from where the alternator is. I cant tell if its the actual alternator or the belt. Also, when i turn off the fan system (heat/ac) the sound stops. I thought that was weird. THanks for the help!

It sounds like the belt is loose. Try this, at an idle, turn all electrical components on, fan, AC, wipers... If the sound gets worse when you do this, turn the engine off and check the belt for tension.

serpentine belts even if tight can be slipping due to wear in the belts grooves.
