I need to identify this part

140,000 MILES • 7.4L • V8 • 2WD • AUTOMATIC

This part is right next to my master cylinder, but I have no idea what it is called. It looks to need replace but I first need to know what it is. Please help! (Chevrolet c2500) David

That is the hydroboost accumulator. It is part of the power brake booster. There are a few versions of them depending on the brake capacity of the vehicle. That looks like a gold one, those are pressurized to around 350psi with nitrogen and used on Disc/Drum brake systems.

They are removable in the vehicle.

But before you start be sure that you can even get the part. The last I knew only the folks who are authorized re-builders could get them, and they were over half the price of a complete rebuilt booster then. The entire boost unit is not hard to swap out if you follow the proper procedures.
