Had to replace my smog pump. Replacement part makes a LOUD humming sound every time I start the car, lasting for 1-2 minutes. My mechanic has replaced it twice at no cost, but each one installed is as loud, or louder. He has no answer for me. Any ideas? thanks

If the pump is what is making the noise then unfortunately we may need to continue to replace them until you get one that is not noisy. I would try changing the supplier of the company if you have not done this. Basically just return the pump and then purchase a different one.

Here is a guide that will help with people that may visit this page that failed the smog test:

Also, you will want to check and ensure the check valve for this system is not clogged as if the pump is not able to pull air then that could cause the pump to make some noise.

Please see the info below from the manual that will help with this.

Thanks

Additional note. A friend ran into this some years ago. He was told it would be handled under warranty, but not until it had been "run in" for at least 1,000 miles. Never made it that far. It became quiet on its own before that.
