Sometimes, my 1999 s10 will crank to till the battery goes dead, and still won't start. It sputters, but won't start. Other times, it starts right up.

With intermittent issues, you have to test when problem is ongoing. Have a helper crank it, while you visually check for spark at the plugs, if that checks out, use a gage and check fuel pressure. Also, use noid lite and check for injector pulse. If you have the spider fuel system, they are noted for problems.
