1999 Chevrolet Express Night After Driving Highway About 10minutes Voltage Gauge

At night after driving the highway about 10minutes the voltage gauge drops from 14 to about 10 or 11 and the lights start to dim. When driving at slower speeds around 40 mph this does not happen. Any reason why?

clean battery cables and have blet checked, it may be to old and slipping. reccomended belt replacement is 60,000 mi alon g with tensioner
