1999 chevy cavalier 5-speed manual trans

I have a 1999 chevy cavalier with 5-speed trans that won't go into 5 gear 1-4 gears are fine, otherwise runs great

So what happens when you try to put it in 5th gear?Does the shifter cable's move to try to go into 5th gear?

shifter moves but won't engage, makes gringing noise.

So if your going into all the other gears good but not 5th then usually that is a transmission issue.I would just make sure the linkage cable's etc are moving good etc.
