I called the transmission shop gave the code (1870) and I was told it would cost around $1600 to repair, I just want to know if the transmission needs to be completly over hauled. Also could the transmission pressure manual valve position switch be bad, and would it cause this problem.

You need to have a shop look at it first. A guess over the phone is hardly a diag.

Yes, the valve can be replaced but damage may be done.

The price is good.

Get another opinion.

A TFP manual valve position switch (Pressure Switch Assembly) malfunction could
set DTC P1870. Ensure final drive ratio matches PCM calibration. The following
mechanical conditions could set DTC P1870:

lShift solenoids.
TCC solenoid.
TCC PWM solenoid.
Internal transmission failures.
Engine misfire.
Transmission range switch DTC.

Code indicattes slipping so high possibility the trans has to be rebuilt.
