Changing the rim size

Mine has 16 in wheels and if I put 20in rims on it will it through off my speedometer

The wheel size is not the factor that is going to affect speedometer. What will determine the affect, is the overall tire diameter. If you used a 20" rim with a tire size that closely matched the O.E. diameter, the affect would be minimal if any.
