My car shakes violently when I get into higher rmps. This normally only happens in first and second, but I did notice it beginning to happen when I first get into third. The shaking is terrible and loud. I haven't noticed any delay in acceleration or any change in the way it drives other than the shaking. It has gotten worse and worse. I've asked friends they believe the problem to be in the engine. The check engine light isn't on. I have had a slight chain-like noise from the time I got the car 4 months ago. It only happens in first and reverse. I'm not sure if that has anything to do with the shaking of the car. It sounds something like heavy chains grinding together. Its a high pitch noise. The shaking is what is worrying me most.

It is the center support bearing of the driveshaft, the webbing holding the bearing has failed and is allowing the shaft to bang about. The process will most likely require replacement of the bearing and/or the complete driveshaft.
