VW Sharan - automatic - when driving over 40 mph there is a high pitched whistling/humming sound which seems to be coming from the front driver side. We have put in a new wheel bearing but the noise still persists. Any idea what could be wrong.

Could be the other wheel bearing on the other side.

The next time you hear the noise, move the steering wheel left and then right (like you are driving through a slalom). If the noise goes away in one direction and comes back in the other, then that confirms that it is a wheel bearing issue.

A Technician familiar with VWs should be able to identify the sound during a test drive.

Sounds, leaks, vibrations etc are not easy to diagnose with a keyboard over the internet.
