My Toyota Hilux 2.4 petrol takes time to start such that I end up using the choke to start it.

It is not, it has a caburator.

We don't have that vehicle here in the US but the symptoms indicate a lean mixture. That would come down to either a severe vacuum leak or an internal problem with the carb.
