When I start off either the rear end or transmission seems to be slipping. It only is a moment then it catches. I can't tell exactly what it is. It shows up more when you back up, then take off. It doesn't do it in reverse, only in forward motion.

There really isn't anything in the differential to slip. The only thing you may feel is a little play from a u-joint or the differential itself. Make sure the trans fluid is clean and full. If there are any warning lights on, have the computer scanned. If it continues to slip, chances are it is from the trans and will need looked at by a trans tech. The clutch plates may be wearing out.
