T/s speedo inop/check engine lite on

5speed manual, 2.2 eng, xmisssion ovhald at 205K. Speedo flicked when needle passed 40 mph for a eek or so, then needle started to swing between 35-75 at hgwy speed. Then flickered at 0-25 at all speeds then speedo quit totally and steady cel came on. Engine would die sometimes at stop sign or stop/go lite. Everythng else ok. Quit driving as not sure of effects. Checked online and seems VS2 may be problem. I have CD of Subaru servive manual but contains very little on real t/shooting.

Possibly the vehicle speed sensor

Could be caused by one of the following below

Oxygen sensor.
Catalytic converter.
Fuel injectors dirty/sticking.
Mass airflow sensor/Airflow meter.
Throttle position sensor.
Crankshaft position sensor
Knock sensor
Manifold absolute pressure sensor.
EGR Valve
Fuel pressure regulator leaking or defective fuel pump.
Fuel contamination.
Foul/defective spark plugs.
Open spark plug wires.
Ignition coil/Coil packs defective.
Incorrect ignition timing.
Cap and rotor.

Note:If it doesn't apply disregard it and keep testing.
