rattling

i have a 1998 impreza and when i start it the car rattles for about 8 minutes until it warms up then is fine rattling sounds like metal hitting each other... any ideas??

When it's cold, take a rubber mallot and tap on the exhaust system to see if it is something loose in the exhaust system such as the catalytic converter, muffler, resinator...
