The key was stuck in the ignition so I replaced it, now it won't shift

my 1998 saturn sl2 gear shift button will not go in to change from park to any other gear. the transmission shifts fine if you can get it unstuck. any suggestions? is this common for a saturn? the key is getting stuck in the ignition and it was just replaced. The key was stuck in the ignition. The car went into gear with no problems. Turn it off overnight and went to start it, it starts fine,the key is still stuck but the button on the side of the gear shift wont depress to move from park. Replaced the ignition switch and I am still having the same problem.
