98 Saturn SL2 HELP!

I have a 98 Saturn SL2. This week it started stalling first when I had been stopped for a while and most recently while driving. It makes a click click noise just before it stalls and the RPM go up to 31/2 - 4 and then below 0. Sometimes it didn't stall it just did what I just described and re-engaged. After sitting for a while the car always starts up again. The check engine light came on after it stalled the last time however after it restarted the light was gone. Any clues?

Start by having the codes read at most autoparts stores for free, post codes in this thread.

To help out on this one I would check for code's although I think it's probably a bad crank shaft sensor and doesn't set a code for that on that car. Next time it die's and won't start check for spark if it doesn't spark. Then if you have a multimeter do you have multimeter you can test the crank sensor.
