I have a 98 saturn that I am having a problem with and i am stumped on. the problem is the temp gage and the rpm move up and down with each other. the car will dye sometimes and will start back up after some cranking. And it also does it when you are driving. the only code that i can pull is for the (CTS) so will that mess with the rpm in this car.

Yes replace the coolant temp sensor and inspect the connector going to it if it's corroded replace the connector too.Sound's like you have a really bad coolant temp sensor causing the the engine to surge and the rpm's to go up and down.Let me know how it run's when your done.
