1998 Pontiac 129,000 miles bearing on front coil spring making cracking noise when turning left or right is this a do it yourself with minmum tools or does a Pro have to do this?

To replace that you would have to remove the strut and compress the coil spring you need a special tool to do that like you were changing a strut. It can be dangerous also if your not good with car's or feel uncomfortable doing a job like that it's best to take it some where to have it done. You will also have to get alignment after it's done.

You could see if they offer a ready strut (complete strut assembly) for this car and just replace the whole strut, otherwise your going to have to have a spring compressor to compress the spring and disassemble the strut, a install a new mount(bearing plate).
