pecking sound when driving

i have a 1998 plymoth neon when i drive it sounds like pecking and i have checked oil and its fine. when i stop it pecks . when i let it sit after i drive it . it leaks water. could this be the water pump

You need to check your oil pressure. The pressure usually goes down at idle. If you have a coolant leak, find the leak.
