1998 olds int. auto trans , the button on the console shifter is hard to push in to put it in any gear.

this is the push button on the shifter that you use to select a gear automatic, also is harder the colder it is. car is a v-6 front wheel drive.button has to be pushed in to slide the shifter backward to put it into drive or any other gear from park.

Sounds like your going to have to pull the console to see if its gummed up with soda coffee etc or something else
