It sounds like either a connector is loose or the circuit board for the instrument panel may be damaged and need replacement. Remove the trim panel by taking out screws and carefully pulling out. Then gauges will come out after removing screws as well. Then you have to pull on it some to get your hand behind it and dis-connect electrical connectors. Then the assembly should come out easily. You will be able to tell if a connector is not tight as you will have to grab a connector release the dis-connect it. Feel around the connector and you will be able to tell where to push the tab in to dis-connect it.

I have the same problem 98 Nissan pathfinder gauges go crazy temperature gauge your fuel gauge speedometer only goes to 20 mph the right side of my air-conditioning system lights don't light up and my seatbelt when you take it off the light doesn't come on and less you jiggle the seatbelt. I just replaced the alternator and voltage regulator and distributor ignition and crank counter cap and rotor button. Any help would be greatly appreciated thank you guys.

Hello,

The seat belt problem sounds like the receiver will need to be replaced becasue the switch is internal. Did the rest of the problems start after you did the alternator replacement? If so I would say the alternator might have a diode out if not then remove the cluster and check the plug in the back, unplug it and then plug it back in again this will fix a bad connection.

Please let us know what you find.

Cheers, Ken
