Air blows out of my vents in my 98 mercury sable but I cant control the temp. So. No ac in the summer, and no heat in the winter

The temperature is controlled by the use of an air mix door that is operated by an electric motor/actuator. This door can be jammed or the actuator can be inoperative or have stripped plastic gears internally.

My heater stopped working. I heard it sound as if it were trying to come on. And it did. Then at the next use, it stopped coming on altogehter (no heat). What could this be an what is an average estimate?

Is it blowing any air at all? Or is the air just cool that is being blown out? If it isn't blowing air at all it is probably the blower motor. Cost is around $40. If it is blowing cool air it could be your thermostat or heater core. It is probably your blower motor though.
