1998 Mercury Marquis Car First Starts Heat Nor Ac Work Temperature Light

When the car first starts, the heat nor the ac work and the temperature light flashes on and stays on the entire time the car is running. Also, it is very difficult for it to climb hills. It takes a very long time for the car to heat up.Could any of the problems consist of temperature gasket or water pump?

check coolant level first if low will cause no heat and then have it pressure checked for leaks if same. scan for codes and check fuelpressure afor other problem
