1998 Kia Sportage Car Starving Electricity Put New Battery Alternator Worked

Car is starving for electricity put new battery and new alternator. Worked fine for about 30 minutes after I installed alternator. Push brake pedal car radio goes off, lights dim. Try to take of with lights on dies. What can I do at home to fix this thing?

Is the battery dead when this happens? If you recharge it, does it then work for a short period of time? Have you checked to see if there are electrical draws when the engine is off?
