1998 Kia Clarus Hi Battery Down Parking Long Time Put Key Turned Start Engine

Hi
My battery is down it was parking for long time .
I have put the key and turned to start the engine .
it does not start and the key stacked , could not get the starter
key out .
I have being told that it required a software ?

did you charge the battery to see if it starts???
