is there something else that holds the steering wheel on after you take the nut off? 1998 jeep grand cherokee limited

Friction. You need a steering wheel puller to pull it off the splined shaft.

what i do in a pinch is leave nut backed off till just flush with end of shaft and then tap with lead hammer while i push from back of wheel with my legs/knees.
