bad starting on 1998 jeep inline 6

My 1998 jeep v-6 in line some days starts fine other day not. On the not days have to give it gas to start and to keep running. Saw and read lots posts and got some ideas, but in my case i here a ticking buy the firewall on pass. side that ticks with the idle. On the good days don't here the ticking. please help.

If the check engine light has come on, have the computer scanned. Check fuel pump pressure as well as the fuel pump relay (possible ticking noise). Check idle air control valve if you are able to start it but required to keep your foot on the gas to keep it running.
