1998 Jaguar XK8 Gearbox Fault

I have a Jaguar XK8 1998 4.0 with a gearbox fault, I've plugged my diagnostic machine and it said " Transmission Range Sensor "A" circuit Range Performance. Code P0706 ". Do you know what might be causing this please ?

see pics for faults it may be a bad switch on transmission which is located on lh side of trans.
