my 98 Honda Passport makes a grinding sound when starting

When I go to start my car, it makes this grinding sound then it starts. I don't know what to check. Is it my oil? Please let me know.. thank you

Actually, it sounds like the starter. Check to see if that is where the noise is coming from. ALSO, you should always check to make sure the oil is clean and full.

Thank You... I will check... also I don't know how to check the transmission fluid? There is no dip stick to check.

There are bolts on the side. The low one is a drain, the top one is where you check. It should be full to the bottom of the threads on this one.
