i have a 98 honda civic ex. its 4 cyl 1.6L and when ever it gets below half a tank of gas as im driving it will sometimes stall. it is an automatic. i asked a few people and they seem to think it may be the fuel pump or the fuel filter that need to be replaced. do you know what may be causing this?

You need to remove the fuel pump and check the sock that is attached to the pump. It may be plugged.

This guide will help

I have seen the distributor cause this issue, check for rust colored dust inside the cap this is a sign its gone bad.

I just read somewhere it is the main Relay which houses the main fuel pump inside it. My issue is similar. 98 Honda Civic CX hatchback 1.6L automatic D16Y7 engine. W/178k miles. Paid $1500 for it and put $1500 into it with parts and labor to make it road Worthy. Every fluid, bearings, coilovers, brakes and new filters plus n wires. Drove it around about 200miles. When I first drove it it got 27mpg, after tune up, work n tune up I got 33-37mpg.
To the point, Father's day was coming up and nephews graduation party. 27.4miles packed and on the road the engine light flashed, clicking noise by ECM. Dead, started turned around and headed back and only made it 1/4mile, dead. Next day hauled it home and dropped it of in driveway. Didn't touch the POS for 4 days. Tonight I went out cleaned and polished about 7 car n battery grounds thinking ahhh maybe. Started right up, turned the car around and ran about 20 minutes then dead. Clicking near ECM and ck engine light. I think the this other guys post could be the fix. I've read the soldering in the main Relay gets cracks in it (which does house the fuel injectors and pump) he says it's fixed. Idk but for a $50 relay I'm gonna try it. Saved this forum so I'll let y'all know in a few weeks to a month as I'm busy. Good Luck. Also the distributor and other crap is all new from last owner so I'm not gonna even look into that other stuff yet. Roger OUT!
