1998 Holden Commodore Fuel Pump Needs Replacing Currently Hot Wired Solenoid

My fuel pump needs replacing. I have currently hot-wired the solenoid to the pos+ terminal (properly, not dangerously) so it starts on LPG. So, lubrication benefits aside, why fix the pump? Must these V6 commodores have petrol to start?

They are set up to start on petrol, when the weather gets cold you will have trouble starting it on LPG.
