What do I need to look at to get it to start?

  • 1998 GMC SIERRA
Tried to start it. Engine turned over but wouldn't fire. Wanted to fire but wouldn't. Replaced old battery with dead cell with new and same problem. Tried again and heard a pop. Not sure of origin. Fuses are ok. Lights and power ok. Its a 5.7 vortec.

Monday. Sat tuesday and tried to start next day to go to work.

Check for good spark, fuel pressure and timing for starters.
