1998 GMC Jimmy catalytic converter replace/install

Anybody remove a 1998 GMC jimmy catalytic converter? I see bolts I can losen, A mechanic said " I need to cut it off", I think I can get off without cutting.

This isn't the type of job you would want to attempt. You may be able to bolt on a "direct fit" replacement but if you check the exhaust specialty shops, they can usually install one and everything for less money.

Well, I called serval place in my area. They want to charge $250 to $280 for a univerisal one. I saw several "direct fit" on ebay for $150 to $199. Maybe if I give a shot I can save money. Thanks.

My apologies, the concept of changing one out on my truck is easy, but getting those bolts off are murderous. So I found a exhaust shop that charge me about $200 for univerisal one, like you recommended, and I was in and out in 30 min. Job looks professionally done and no check engine light. Thanks for help.
