electrical problem

i have 98 gmc 1500 5.7l vortec just replaced heads and fried starter now ignition switch wont start truck jumped switch with push button and it starts now the brake lights dont work when the key is on so i have two problems that might be related

The ignition switch is bad and that was the reason the starter got fried. It did not release the starter after engine started.

For the brake lights, if hazard lights works, it is not the fault of the stop/hazard fuse. Check the stop lamp relay and # Maxi fuse (30 A) in underhood fuse box.
