1998 Ford Taurus Serpentine belt

The serpentine belt continues to either shred, break or come off...... I have change out the water and power steering pumps by professional mechanics....... Who have also put on the belts.......... Why is this a persistent problem, I have never had this issue with other cars nor really heard of such a continuous problem once fixed.........

Look for a pulley that's turned or tipped from its proper position. That usually occurs with idler and tensioner pulleys. You can also try sighting down from on top through all the pulleys. If you see one where the belt is peeking out to the side, as little as 1/8" compared to all the rest, suspect either that pulley or the one right before it.
