The OBD-II scanner detect the error if crankshaft sensor is down?

I used OBD-II scanner to test my Ford Taurus (98) and found no error. But the technican thought the crankshaft sensor might be misfunctioning. Is it right?

A code reader would be able to read the trouble code if ny occurs but if the crank sensor is not completely faulty but working slightly out of specs, it might not trigger the MIL.

What is the problem you are encountering?
