My truck is manual, 1988 For Ranger 4x4, gear shift moves but gears don't engage, and the gears are stuck on neutral, won't crank. Is it my clutch or transmission that needs to be repaired?

For a couple of weeks before, I had a hard time stopping the truck from going back while stopped at an uphill. Now I press the clutch and turn on the ignition key and don't get a crank.

Can it be my ignition or something else? I don't see any plastic pieces under the clutch.

Could have an input shaft that is broken, Check shifter linkage. Also, check clutch switch.
